The Client
Cvent provides software for event management, web surveys, and email marketing as well as a global event venue directory with more than 150,000 venues.
The Situation
Cvent had previously managed online content through a static website. The site was difficult to administer and even more difficult to utilize as a marketing tool. Any changes to the site required intensive development support which slowed down marketing efforts and required ongoing investment from the internal development team.
Cvent sought to modernize its website structure to support ongoing acquisitions, enable marketing technology integrations and to streamline its content management process for the future.
The Challenge
Cvent wanted to keep its current design system and information architecture intact on the new CMS, while extending its marketing technology reach. This meant not only auditing existing content, but also looking for opportunities to improve the life cycle and extendibility of the Cvent digital marketing ecosystem.
The Solution
In partnership with Elevated Third, Cvent’s approach to content administration is centered around the concept of components — structured content “building blocks” in Drupal that allow for a wide range of variation in page layout. Elevated Third worked closely with the Cvent design team to finalize their “library” of content components for building pages.
To assist with the Cvent team’s enterprise-level marketing efforts, Elevated Third also integrated Drupal with Marketo. Elevated Third’s development team navigated Cvent’s three existing Marketo form configurations and implemented a custom Marketo Forms 2.0 + Drupal module. This module allows site admins to choose from a variety of custom and pre-configured forms to meet their ever-changing marketing needs. Its as simple as adding the “form component” in Drupal, selecting the specific Marketo form they want to use, and that form is ready to start collecting leads on the site.
With a project of this size, it makes sense to go with a hosting platform that is fine-tuned for Drupal web applications. Acquia is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to working in Drupal.
The benefits of working with Acquia as a hosting provider go far beyond security and workflow management. The team actively worked with Cvent and Elevated Third to offer strategic solutions that are tailored to project needs and Drupal solutions.
The Results
Going from a static site to CMS is typically a massive investment. So, having a content management solution that is free of licensing fees and taps into a massive open source community is a game changer.
Cvent turned a static site of more than 1,500 unique pages into an organized, scalable, digital marketing hub within the Drupal CMS. The entire project took less than seven months to complete and has transformed a cumbersome static site into a streamlined Drupal 8 site that allows marketers to take control of the reigns.
